Many people have been stepping away from social media lately, but some of them seem to be coming back quickly as well. People have been coming and going from Facebook, Instagram, and more as Internet toxicity gets to them, but popular YouTuber Olajide Olayinka “KSI” Olatunji apparently couldn't stay away from Twitter for long.

KSI recently confirmed he would be taking a hiatus from Twitter due to spreading 'cancel culture,' but now he has changed his mind and will be using the platform periodically. KSI's popularity based off YouTube led him into celebrity boxing and public feuds, eventually resulting in him accruing over six million Twitter followers.

With a big following comes big responsibility, and it looks like social media may be getting to KSI as he tries to decide how much of it he wishes to use. The YouTuber announced on March 25 that he’d be leaving Twitter, and KSI further elaborated on the reasoning behind his decision in a follow-up video on March 28. However, he returned by April 3, resulting in a week of inactivity but nothing to write home about. During his hiatus, KSI still used the platform to promote his musical career, but he significantly reduced his overall Twitter footprint.

“I just think it’s crazy that the standard people have over [on Twitter], especially with people who are well known or famous,” KSI said in his March 28 video. “They expect you to be perfect [and to] literally [make] no mistakes, [or have] no problems ever as if we’re not human.”

Countless KSI fans were shocked by his stepping away from Twitter back in March, but those fans were delighted to see his return so soon. Many people are speculating that KSI left partly in response to the backlash he faced after being accused of making transphobic jokes during a recent Jackbox stream. While the popular YouTuber claimed Twitter has changed for the worse in recent years, it seems he has returned for the foreseeable future.

Thanks to documentaries such as The Social Dilemma and The New Corporation, social media enthusiasts are growing skeptical of the platforms. KSI is among a movement of Twitter users that are resisting the direction that the platform is going in. Twitter is a platform where people will know if and when someone says something wrong, and it seems KSI possibly wasn't ready to be put on a pedestal.

Despite his disappointment with Twitter, KSI continued to promote his music, showing the importance of the platform for marketing purposes. While the YouTuber was quick to leave the platform because of 'cancel culture' and the social aspect of social media, he also showed the functional need for Twitter for performance artists.

The rise of “cancel culture” and the idea of canceling someone comes mainly from social media. The plot generally goes like : ‘A celebrity or influential person does something which is considered wrong socially’- ‘This results in a public outrage on social media demanding justice (If anyone is affected) and an explanation/ apology for the act’ – and lastly ‘Everyone moves on from the situation.’

Cancel culture started as a trend to effectively hold influential people accountable for their mistakes and wrong doing.

However, in the recent times cancel culture has become the most toxic trends existing on social media (even more than the tide pod challenge) due to the fact that it has evolved from holding people accountable for their mistakes to death threats, rape threats, Doxing and cyber bullying.

The public on twitter trying to cancel a celebrity no longer wants too see a reform in the celebrity, what they want to see is the celebrity being cancelled, be trolled and be dehumanized for committing that wrong.

Today logan Paul was trending on twitter and this time not for a controversy. While Logan Paul did not directly refer to cancel culture, it was pretty evident by his words he did not support cancel culture.

The tweet was well received by the community, maybe due to the fact that Logan Paul is an apt example of one of the few persons who made it out of cancel culture and have shown genuine change but still blind receive hate for their past.
